What's planned and what do you want to see?

Feel free to respond with idea to the following:

As of this writing issue 1 is fresh off the presses and we're laying ground work issues 2-4

Currenly issue 2 is 90% written and is a catch all of stuff we had waiting to be published as well as articles bumped from issue 1 due to space constraints. No over all theme.

What's in planning is two major themes for issues 3-4

Issue 3: we have a seriously cool cover art from a professional artist with numerous commercial credits to their name. the subject of the art is robotics more or less and since we did have some planned articles on or involving robotics we thought that the cover should dictiate the theme and we're looking at robotics as the theme for issue 3 early in 2013. issue 3 is the final instalment of Mooks Without Number adventure and we've even worked a robotics angle to that one

Issue 4: has a theme that is a bit of a lightning strike. Terl Obar wrote a realy interesting article on sub space radios. It immediately suggested to me, upon reading it, that we should expand on it: do a write up on an organization described in the article, do a location described in the article, do a deck plan on a ship mentioned in the article, and do an adventure spawned from the adventure seeds in the article (the adventure will use the other write ups as that just makes sense) finally- there is a tennative plan for a particular planetary brief to suit the needs of the adventure just alluded to. All of that was spawned by just a simple little article on sub space radios- who'd have thought that could happen. No cover Art is chosen yet but we do have an artist name penciled in who has given us broad permissions to use his stuff.

issues with themes will not automatically exclude material that does not support the theme but if we end up with too much material for the space allowed then non themed articles are likely to get nudged to a latter issue.

other themes ideas are welcome, content is welcome, fiction is welcome

Well I'm certainly interested in a Planetary Brief, as I'd mentioned to the editors already. I have backed off oy my earlier desire to work on the Scree Fron system, as it seems to have been covered to a great degree in another publication. So an alternative I've started looking at is Madderly's Star and its planet Kidikit. The planet has 5 moons, and one of them certainly could serve as a major subspace radio station. Alternatively, it could go in issue #5.

I'm also interested in doing some fiction.

I've taken the spot light with the first serialized adventure in FE (they dont all have to be multi-part adventures) so while I have a few other modules in development I'm not planning to monopolize the FE with my adventures. That said there has been a Mercy Mission to Madderly's Star adventure in development for a long time. If there is no other adventure on the horizon then a Madderly's Star brief would be a good pairing for that but nothing will get considered for an adventure until issue 5 (or latter depending on how big the adventure that compliments the subspace radio article ends up being)

So Far we've done 1 in depth planetary brief for issues 1&2 to serve the needs of the adventures in them and thats just me being anal about trying to put all the tools into a referee's hands for running the game. Issue 3 doesn't have a brief but Mooks part 3 wont require a one. We can pencil one into the ladder; we'll probably need it by Dec 1st but dont hold me to that.

I need to confer with Terl Obar about my suggested expansion of his article into a whole theme and what parts he'd be interested in doing. The listening post location will need a map and write up but should be fairly generic for any referee to use any place they want to drop an outpost of that nature. Its not a big project but is something someone might like to tackle.

I have been mullilng over ideas for a serial one page article.  I think a Jack Hanna / Crocodile Hunter inspired Yazirian character who introduces animals from the frontier would be a fun.  Each article would have the character introducing some frontier animal and telling an anecdotal story or two from his encounters in the wild.  Then the article would detail the creature with stats, habitat, ecology, a picture, etc.  I can knock out pictures on par with the Lossodragon sketches.  Just don't ask me to do people.

In response to an earlier comment, there is no reason we can't run two adventures in one issue if we have them and there is room.  So by all means if you have adventure ideas feel free to submit them.

I like the Crocodile Hunter yazirian idea.  I look foward to seeing submissions.

I like it Iggy, and I was actually thinking about drawing a yaz with a jungle hat- I was musing about head gear for a yazirian and thought they might use a jungle style hat with the brim on both sides pinned up to clear their ears and or out stretched arms during flight.

Funny that you mentioned Jack Hanna who is on Jay Leno all the time with animals and I just envisioned Yaz Hanna sitting with Dral Leno and an animal on a leash that is pissing on Leno's desk and leno is flinching back, it would have to be tasteful (if an animal pissing can be tasteful) and you'd only see the puddle and stream but not the actual point of origin. have to do some doodles of that and find a reference picture of a man sitting for the yaz Hanna to be based on- no promises.

Gotta come up with a good yazirian name that evokes images of Jack Hanna and Steve Irwin.

Well they are simian like. Makak (spelling?) is a foreign name for monkey and it rhymes with jack so... Jakak?

Is there room for other content other than SF?  I have a SciFi setting of my own that I would like to, at least, submit short stories about it.  What do you guys think?

The answer is yes. Tom and I are very big fans of Star Frontiers so we naturally gravitate in that direction.

we have a mission statement here that might help answer your questions

Absolutely.  As Jedion357 said, we lean toward Star Frontiers but I definitely would like to see the magazine do stuff from other settings.

William J. Wilson

No problem.  The content is mine and I am, at the moment, just writing short stories about it (no specific game content).  I will submit is soon as it is ready.

Well, I submitted my first short story to this magazine.  I hope it passes muster.
