Licensing question... anyone got an answer?

Hey folks! Love the site and the zine. I used to play Star Frontiers back in the early 80s, and still have my beat-up box.

Recently I've gotten into more modern agnostic systems, like Powered by the Apocalypse games, and Savage Worlds. And when I found a Savage Worlds Star Frontiers conversion I was stoked!

I've also been running games at my local con here (Strategicon in LA) and started a Lego-based dungeon crawl, and that's led me to today.

I have a Lego-based Star Frontiers Savage Worlds dungeon crawl that I put together, and just ran it a few times for friends and at Orccon 2015. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, and the player responses.

So, my question is: If I wanted to publish an adventure / module type thing, does anyone know if there are legal concerns around the Star Frontiers races, or using the Star Frontiers name? I know it went OGL back in the early 2000's, but just wasn't sure the deal-io.

Printed Copies Of Frontier Explorer

I got printed copies of FE issues 1 and 2 for Christmas. I must say that they look very professional. The binding is great and the color printing it quality. The paper the printing company uses is nice and strong. I would say you get your money's worth in a printed copy of Frontier Explorer. I will be buying more issues.

The cover art for Traveller 4 Milieu 0 product inspired this

archaeological dig with members of the core four at the base of an unearthed statue and the statue is a dead ringer for something right off Easter Island on earth. Headling is: Tetrarchs Revealed? or something to that effect, "Face of the Tetrarchs?"

I've been reading a book on drawing landscapes in pencil and did my first landscape in a composite drawing called Necromancia, which is no great thing to write home about but I feel that I can pull togehter some photo reference and develop this picture except that I feel like i dont want to use the 9X12 paper and should up size. Down side is that I'll have to fiddle with scanner software and figure out the scan and stitch feature as well as find time to swing by the art store for the larger sized 100% rag paper

The upside is that with the larger sized paper i might just try doing a Star Frontiers version of the original Star Wars poster [the one with Luke holding a light saber above his head] Vader will become a vrusk and the death star will become a space station out of 2001 a space odessy and instead of X wing fighters launching into the sky it will be assault scouts oh yeah guess who Chewbaka will be? debating how to work in a dralasite as I feel that a little leg is good in art and thus planned to leave Princess leiha a human female so that leaves Luke or Han as a dralasite.

What's planned and what do you want to see?

As of this writing issue 1 is fresh off the presses and we're laying ground work issues 2-4

Currenly issue 2 is 90% written and is a catch all of stuff we had waiting to be published as well as articles bumped from issue 1 due to space constraints. No over all theme.

What's in planning is two major themes for issues 3-4

Issue 3: we have a seriously cool cover art from a professional artist with numerous commercial credits to their name. the subject of the art is robotics more or less and since we did have some planned articles on or involving robotics we thought that the cover should dictiate the theme and we're looking at robotics as the theme for issue 3 early in 2013. issue 3 is the final instalment of Mooks Without Number adventure and we've even worked a robotics angle to that one

Issue 4: has a theme that is a bit of a lightning strike. Terl Obar wrote a realy interesting article on sub space radios. It immediately suggested to me, upon reading it, that we should expand on it: do a write up on an organization described in the article, do a location described in the article, do a deck plan on a ship mentioned in the article, and do an adventure spawned from the adventure seeds in the article (the adventure will use the other write ups as that just makes sense) finally- there is a tennative plan for a particular planetary brief to suit the needs of the adventure just alluded to. All of that was spawned by just a simple little article on sub space radios- who'd have thought that could happen. No cover Art is chosen yet but we do have an artist name penciled in who has given us broad permissions to use his stuff.

issues with themes will not automatically exclude material that does not support the theme but if we end up with too much material for the space allowed then non themed articles are likely to get nudged to a latter issue.

other themes ideas are welcome, content is welcome, fiction is welcome
